National Sorry Day

Organisational
National Sorry Day commemorates the anniversary of the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in the Australian Parliament in 1997. Uniting AgeWell pays our respects to the survivors of the Stolen Generations and their descendants who continue to be affected by the enormity of these experiences.
The theme for Sorry Day 2025, We Cannot Wait Another Generation, emphasises the urgent need to act on the outstanding recommendations of the Bringing Them Home report. Through our Trauma Aware Healing Informed Care for Forgotten Australians and Care Leavers Training program, Uniting AgeWell is expanding the skills and understanding of our staff to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people feel seen, heard and supported as they age. This step is part of ensuring we avoid care that re-triggers institutionalised trauma and reflects the continuation of our journey in developing skills in trauma-aware, healing-informed practice.
